Well Saturday was the fourth day of filming Rampage, and things went well, not as we planned but really, very nicely!
We had another short day of filming, only seven hours total time on set, but only like 4 or 5 of those hours was actual filming. The Irish's were very nice and let us use their house as location for Robert's house. Then we jumped over to my house to film an Elizabeth and Angie scene. And we would like to welcome Cody Hill as a new member of our crew! We "trained" him on sound for the Robert scene, and he was great! Speaking of sound, with the settings fixed on our recorder we now have beautiful sound quality! YAY! Originally we were going to film the precinct scenes as well buuuut extras were out of town (randomly) and hard to come by. So we are working on shooting those scenes this Saturday instead. We have like 5 scenes to film this Saturday, but it will be the first day that we will get to switch the boys (that's what we call the Eason's) out halfway through the day. We'll have Cullen in the afternoon and Brendan in the evening. It's what we had been wanting to do all along (so they didn't have such long film days) but it has never worked out until now. And it will be good practice for 'Daniel' as that will be how a lot of days will go. Our crew (unless we have enough to be able to switch them out halfway through the day) will be on set all day, but most of our cast will switch out per location, some in the morning, some in the afternoon or evening. So this should be interesting, hopefully we'll feel as professional as it sounds, lol. And we are hoping for a BOATLOAD of extras this Saturday, we certainly need them! We are having a huge party scene and a police precinct scene. So, if YOU are available this Saturday (the 16th) and would like to be an extra contact me via the Contact Us page here on this site, on Facebook, or at [email protected]. We would LOVE to have you! Speaking of 'Daniel' (yes, I do realize that was a few sentences ago) we are still getting ready for auditions! Kourtny and I went through the script and figured out what scenes to use for auditions and started going through our auditioners and making a list of who we wanted them to audition for. Kourtny and I also started figuring out the characters costume styles. And Kourtny, Melanie and I went through the script and decided on what changes needed to be made to the script, and it's pretty darn good. There were a few minor things we found that needed to be altered or added, but otherwise we are just a step away from a completed script! So, that seems to be all the newness going on here. I'll write a blog post about what we learn from Trai on Tuesday and how auditions go on Wednesday! Enjoy and Happy Filmmaking! Jessica Cunningham Well, as I'm sure you remember this Saturday, the 23rd, was the photoshoot for Rampage By Definition. And things went really well. Melanie's costume piece came in and fit (mostly) and we got the patches, duty belt, badge, gun, radio, handcuffs and everything put on and boy did she look official! She, by far, has the most expensive costume but boy it is worth the money spent, it looks legitimate! She walked in the room and she looked like a police officer. The only problem was her sleeves are a bit too long, but the way she stands in uniform you can't tell in pictures, but we have a seamstress working on shortening them for filming this weekend. But the photo shoot! Well originally we were going to some location shots (in old town) but we had set backs and there was no way we were going to have time for them so we skipped those and went straight to Brendan's studio. And things went great! We took all of Victor's singles then did Victor and Lily then Victor, Lily and Roxi. Then we did entire cast shots then we released Brendan because he had to leave at 6. Then we moved on to Robert and Angie, Robert, Angie and Elizabeth and Robert's singles then we released Cullen because he had to leave before 8. And we had Sarah there to be our lovely hair and make-up artist as well as a dead body for different shots. Then we took Lily's singles and did Lily and Roxi pictures. Then took Roxi singles. Then Angie and Elizabeth shots, then Angie singles then Elizabeth singles. So after all that it was 9pm and we had 2,083 pictures. So Natalie, Melanie, Kourtny and I went back to my house and looked at the pictures, and they were amazing. The studio gave us perfect lighting and space to take perfect and extremely professional photos. Kourtny has since been editing the half shadow pictures and we skyped so I got to watch the magical process! It's pretty cool to be a producer and director because you get to see all areas of film working together and see all the work that goes into the process of making what you want happen. Then Kourtny and I stayed up Saturday night and worked on more kinks in information for future seasons of Rampage. We have so much figured out it's amazing, you won't believe all that's going to happen in this show! So with today being Monday I tried to be a producer and get locations pinned down but unfortunately everywhere I called the boss was out of the office, so I left a lot of messages. And Kourtny and I have this weekends filming already storyboarded and we figured out the filming schedule for the next 8 weeks. We have 7 weeks of filming left before we finish filming Rampage By Definition, remember it's a 44 page script and we are filming one day a week and this week we did a photo shoot, so we'll have filmed all of Rampage By Definition in 9 weeks....9 days. 11 weeks (11 days) of work total, counting the script read through and the photo shoot. That's pretty darn good! So for this weekend we'll have a shorter filming day (not 12 hours), about 7 or 8 hours. And we need a police car so Melanie is talking to an officer from her church if we can film his car. Oh, and Kourtny and Sarah are going to be releasing pictures from the photo shoot about daily and we'll try to have new posters finished every weekend for a few weeks. If you see a poster you like and would like to have it hanging officially in your room (or wherever) contact me on the 'Contact Us' page or facebook or email me (the little facebook, twitter and email buttons on the top of every page will take you to us on those mediums). And if you'd like we can even sign them for you! I am constantly keeping this site updated but be sure to like us on facebook and follow us on twitter for updates too! Below are some edited pictures from the photo shoot for you to enjoy with thine eyes! :) That's all from me for now! Enjoy and Happy Filmmaking! Jessica Cunningham Well Saturday was day two of filming. Originally we were going to meet at 9am for hair and makeup but I forgot about an appointment and we had to postpone. So Kourtny met at the Eason's house at noon to do hair and makeup. Sarah came as our official hair and makeup woman for he day, she was incredibly helpful to have on set! Not only did she have a good knack for doing hair and makeup but she was willing to jump in and do touch ups and help with any random thing we asked her to do. Towards the end of the day she helped run camera and helped direct as well. And we got to meet Joey, a crewmember that my screenwriting teacher directed me towards. He was super awesome to work with and we hope to see a lot more of him on set! Anyway, the plan was to get started filming at 1...but things don't always go as planned. We had a fight we needed to choreograph and run until our actors were comfortable as well as piece together some costume pieces (I broke one belt and couldn't make another work as a belt for my Detective duty belt...luckily Cullen had one that fit). So we didn't end up getting started until 3, which was when Joey had to leave, we promise Joey next time you can actually help film! So at 3 we started, and we had to shuffle things around, a segment of a scene needed to be shot during the day so we shot for about 20 minutes about a minute worth of film then switched gears into a different scene. That's when I took over as cinematographer. I am the producer and director, never really understood cameras much, but Kourtny was in the scene and neither of us can jump from director/cinematographer to character so I took over. But she has taken care to teach me how to run camera and we both have the same style of film that we like and we had storyboarded together so I knew what the shots needed to look like. So for 80% of Saturday I was director and cinematographer. It's amazing how a combined total of 24 hours of shooting time can really make you comfortable directing and running camera. Just like in reality we only spent 8 days with Jack Bauer. Random thought over. Of course it was another long and intense shooting day. 12 hours. 3pm-3am. And of course they were long days for Brendan, but he really has been a trooper and fantastic talent, very happy to have him as Victor, couldn't picture anyone else in his part. Unfortunately I can't give details, just know that things are intense but amazing and will have you in shock. This is by far the largest project we have ever tackled, but it is turning out to be, by far, the best project we have ever done. Things are falling into place perfectly and things look beautiful. Very professional, you would think we had a bigger budget than we actually had. This will be seen by the pictures that will come from the photo slash promo shoot next weekend. Time flies on set! I never realized how late it was, part of it was because the windows were blacked out (that happens a lot when we are shooting Victor scenes) so it looks like it is always night and you cannot track time. At different points in the day we would loose it and take a five or ten minute break, usually of slap-happy laughter then someone would pull it together and we would jump right back into serious filming. The footage of those moments are pretty funny...for us anyway. :) Hopefully you'll find them funny too, don't worry, we'll have a blooper reel...Kourtny is obsessed with blooper reels. :) So at around midnight the intense Victor scene was over and we switched gears again into a Robert scene. And things looked good! I haven't seen the footage yet, but Kourtny says we did good, and I believe her! I handed directing over to Melanie and Sarah (since, like I said, I can't jump from director to character very easily yet I need help in the directing department if my acting is to look good and Kourtny was...occupied...in the scene as well) and it turned out just fine. Things looked great according to Kourtny, Melanie and Sarah, good acting and chemistry. And at 3am we wrapped it up and, completely zombified, we went home. Then on Sunday we went back to the Eason's and cleaned up set and gave the carriage house back to the Eason's. Would you like some quotes from Saturday? Well here you go, hopefully you enjoy them as much as we did. "I was going to say something about temperature...and my hiney." Cullen "She's like a seal with a boom mic! That's messed up!" Brendan "I'm calling the police, wait, I AM the police!" Jessica Taser dance Sarah slapping Cullen So, that's a summary of day two of filming Rampage By Definition. Next week is the photo/promo shoot and filming resumes the following week! Enjoy and happy filmmaking! Jessica Cunningham :) Last night we had a photo-shoot of Victor and Lily to use as set dressing for our first day of filming tomorrow. And things went incredibly well.
As a filmmaker I obviously have respect for costuming, hair, and make-up and how much they can affect a character. But it was amazing to see two members of my cast age by seven years in seven minutes! In the first picture they are supposed to look 13 (Lily) and 17 (Victor) and with costuming and hair and a very little photoshop they did! Then quick change and boom! They looked 20 (Lily) and 24 (Victor)! I know it's simple, but it's amazing to me! Movie magic, still shocks me, haha. My story for the day. Enjoy and Happy filmmaking! Jessica Cunningham After three days of filming The Squall was finished we all sat down in Melanie's living room and just relaxed. Natalie, however, was stoked to come up with another short that we could create. So I took the bait. I knew our next shorts needed to be serious, since all I had ever done before was comedic or slap-happy and my feature film was going to be a drama, I needed to work on making a drama before I dove into it without a clue for a feature. So we started with superheros. And from there it blossomed. We started with the full intention of it being no longer than five or ten minutes long, but, as anyone who has ever written a story knows, that sometimes the story has a life of it's own, and this one was no different. Now unfortunately I can't go too in-depth as to what led to what and how things changed because that would give away the entire story. But I can say that we have been adding depth, story, back-story, character, characters, and meaning since August of 2012, you'd be amazed how much story and insane mind-blowing moments that can put into a TV show. Oh yeah, did I mention this is a TV show? We have enough story for four seasons, and that's only right now, between now and 2014 we could add more! But anyway, back to how it was made.
So needless to say we walked away from that meeting waiting for the day we could start filming Rampage. Since then I've written three completely different drafts, and we now finally have a complete script that covers all that we want and need for the teaser/pilot Rampage By Definition. So that's my first post. I could have started with anything, but since we are in full swing pre-production on Rampage I thought that would be a good place to start. At current Kourtny is out costume shopping for her character Roxi. We are going to start filming this Saturday, but on Thursday we will be looking at locations for Saturday's filming. Enjoy and happy filmmaking! Jessica Cunningham |
AuthorI've always known I wanted to do something with film since I was at least 14 years old. And now I have my own production company and the best cast and crew I could ask for, and it's still getting better everyday! Archives
